Creating a Record work for Mike Smith

Phonograph
Thomas Edison come up with two inventions one which was a telegraph and the other a telephone. He created them in 1877. Thomas Edison took his invention to New York City and they liked the idea so it began to appear in newspapers and magazines. Edison started to work on the machine and it transcribed telegraphic messages everywhere repeatedly. Edison got payed $10,000 for creating the Phonograph. The Phonograph is made out of metal.

Home Phonograph
Home Phonographs play two minute cylinders. There is a crane which holds up the flower part of the horn which the sound comes from.

The Gramohone
In the 1890s Edison turned his attention to the Gramophone and found out how 52 discs can be stored in 8 cylinders. You can still buy Gramaphones today. A man called Emile Berlinder created the Gramophone in 1895 which was different compared to Edisons invention of the Phonograph because it records sound.

Shellac Record player
This recorder was one of the better ones because it lasted a long while rather than the other recorders. It lasted a longer while because it was made of a stronger metal.

Modern record players
Record players generate sound by the disc moving. This record player has been improved since they were first invented. It was created in the 80s when it was pitched as portable. There is a new version that runs on batteries. They are under £100 if you buy them. The vinyl record is like the playback process, except in reverse. Instead of passing a stylus over grooves to recreate a recording, an album cutter connected to an input source passes over a blank disc.

Open Reel Tape Recorder
Open reel tape recorders can get damaged easily so you will often need to replace them if that happens. The tape is held by a magnetic so it is holding the tape. This reel tape is one of the earlier recorders made. Peoples favorites are mainly Ferrograph and Brenell. The first created was the Ampex Model 200 released in 1948 and purchased by ABC for the recording of delayed broadcasts. The size of the tape widths were ranged from 1/4 inch to 2 inch.

Multitrack Recorder
A multi track recorder is a device that lets you record sounds on different tracks at different times and lets you play them all back together. With a multi track recorder you don't need a computer. Most bands use multitrack recorders.

Audio Cassette
Basically the audio cassette is a tape which plays music and sounds. It was invented in 1962 by philips company. By this time the quality wasn't that good until the 1970s.

Digital Audio Tape
The digital audio tape is a signal for recording and was created in 1987. It is similar to a compact cassette. Digital audio tapes are better than conventional tape recorders because there tape size is better and have a better dynamic range. The digital tape can use up to two hours of sound on each side.

CD
Also known as compact disc. The CD holds different music and sounds. It used to store digital data. The CD is 1.2 mm thick and weights 15-20 grams. It was created by sony and philips in the 1979s.

MP3
MP3 is a music file which is smaller but still has the same sounds and music depending on how much giga bites it has. MP3s were created in the early 1990s but it wasn't as successful as in 1997. People prefer MP3 players because you can take them anywhere with you. Companies started to create there own MP3 players for there own business.
